When complete in Fall 2022, the Regional Health Partnership (RHP) Building will offer 108,000 square feet of modern classroom, laboratory and office space to amplify Spokane’s existing healthcare and life sciences innovation cluster.
Starting in 2020, Emerald Initiative began supporting EWU to launch a nursing program aimed at serving rural and underserved communities, which is now housed inside the SIERR building. Today, everyday adjacencies and programmed convenings at SIERR now support students and faculty to be at the center of Spokane's medical education and innovation scene.
The University of Washington and Gonzaga University medical programs will locate on the first three floors with a fourth floor designed to house complementary research users. Ample common areas throughout will help cultivate collaboration and inter-organizational partnership.
The SIERR Building, named after the Spokane and Inland Empire Railroad, once housed locomotive engines and was instrumental in Spokane’s early growth. Completely renovated in 2011, the building offers office space for healthcare and life science companies wanting to work side-by-side with University of Washington and Gonzaga University medical programs. The 70,000 square foot historic building boasts modern offices and meeting spaces with abundant natural lighting and exceptional high-bay, brick and beam interiors.
Now housed inside the SIERR building is EWU's Nursing and Communication Sciences & Disorders programs aimed at serving rural and underserved communities, as well as Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center. Today, everyday adjacencies and programmed convenings at SIERR now support students and faculty to be at the center of Spokane's medical education and innovation scene.
An ultra-efficient ground-source heat pump system allows SIERR to heat and cool itself using its unique proximity to the Spokane River and accessible groundwater. The Health Peninsula development will build upon this sustainability feature with an open loop system that will deliver efficiency rarely, if-ever, achieved for this type of project.
